Real People Who Have Made a Real Difference
Al Maggini has been involved with Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for
over 56 years, as a Trustee, Foundation Director and Campaign Chair.
His commitment, caring and commanding presence have made an
incredible difference to Sonoma County for over sixty years. In 1937,
at the age of 22, Al became a stockbroker. During WWII he was a 1st
Lieutenant of the 8th Air Force, flying 35 combat missions over
Germany. In 1994 he was named one of the six most exceptional
stockbrokers in the nation by Research Magazine and inducted into
the Broker Hall of Fame. Al's charitable gift annuities provide him with retirement income and provide valuable support for the future.
Carola Doran retired to Oakmont with her sister after a successful administrative career in San Francisco. In her words, “I have always believed in trying to be the best, buying the best and only supporting the best people and institutions – that’s why I chose Memorial. I don’t have any family left. I want to do something that matters, and I have always enjoyed the way I have been cared for by the women who work in the Memorial cafeteria. They make wonderful fried chicken!” Carola chose to support Memorial by naming the Hospital as a beneficiary in her will.
Lena Lafferty felt that she and her sister, Ernestine, were well cared for by Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital's compassionate home heath nurses. Lena was born Lena Brovelli in Fort Bragg and came to Sonoma County at an early age with her family. She was married to Daniel Lafferty, the owner of the Lafferty & Smith Funeral Home in Santa Rosa. Lena herself worked as a clerk in Sonoma County Superior Court for 38 years. Lena left a generous legacy through her will benefiting 10 local organizations, significantly helping those in the community where she had deep roots.
Ron Nelson is a CPA. He has served on the Hospital Foundation's Board of Directors for twenty years and heads its planned giving committee. Ron's leadership and steadfast support have provided a meaningful difference to Memorial Hospital and the many people they serve. Ron and his wife, Eileen, have used their charitable lead trust to sustain Memorial Hospital and the other charitable organizations that they feel are vital to the health of their community.
