St. Joseph Health System - Sonoma County (SJHS-SC) is that trusted neighbor you can count on to provide the expertise, compassionate care and personalized attention you and your family deserve.

We've been here for generations - improving health, enriching lives and strengthening communities throughout Sonoma County and the North Coast region.

As the area's population has grown, so have we. In the years since establishing Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, we have expanded our local, not-for-profit network of hospitals, healthcare services and community outreach programs in keeping with the mission of our founders: to improve the health and quality of life of our neighbors.

Today, SJHS-SC is anchored by our core facilities: Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and Petaluma Valley Hospital (PVH). Our comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and community outreach services provide the expert care you need - close to home. Should tragedy strike, we are the designated Level II Trauma Center for the North Coast region. When a child enters the world, we provide a safe, warm welcome. For those with life-limiting illness, we offer compassionate hospice services and palliative care.

We're the first choice among patients requiring specialized cardiac care, cancer treatment, sports medicine and rehabilitation, emergency care, psychiatric services and much more.

We advocate for healthy communities and offer medical access services to our neighbors in need.

Whatever your needs, whenever you need us - we're here for you.

We are guided, in all we do, by our core values of dignity, excellence, service and justice.

These principles speak to the heart of who we are, both as a values-based organization, and as individuals dedicated to the well-being of others. They are the core values by which we endeavor to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.

Dignity - We respect each person as an inherently valuable member of the human community and as a unique expression of life.

Excellence - We foster personal and professional development, accountability, innovation, teamwork and commitment to quality.

Service - We bring together people who recognize that every interaction is a unique opportunity to serve one another, the community and society.

Justice - We advocate for systems and structures that are attuned to the needs of the vulnerable and disadvantaged, and that promote a sense of community among all persons.

We Care About You - Body, Mind and Spirit

In the Catholic tradition of our founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, we promote a philosophy of care that addresses the needs of the whole person - body, mind and spirit.

That means tending not just to an individual's physical condition, but also to their emotional and spiritual needs. All members of the SJHS-SC family - physicians, staff and volunteers alike, embrace the dedication to the total well-being of our patients and their loved ones.

So, when you get the sense that the people of SJHS-SC seem to genuinely care about you - body, mind and spirit - rest assured, we truly do.

A Legacy of Healing

Our heritage of healing began in 1912 when the Sisters of St. Joseph arrived in Eureka, California from La Grange, Illinois to establish a school. The Sisters were carrying out the centuries-old mission of their religious community, which was to reach out to their neighbors in need. When the influenza epidemic of 1918 struck, the Sisters opened their homes to the sick, and soon established St. Joseph Hospital of Eureka, thereby launching their new healthcare ministry.

In the years that followed, the Sisters expanded that ministry to other areas of California, including Sonoma County, where they established Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital in 1950.

St. Joseph Health System - Sonoma County has since become the leading provider of integrated health care and community outreach services for Sonoma County and the North Coast region.

This growing network of services reflects our ongoing commitment to continually improve the health and quality of life of people in the communities we serve.

By reaching out to all those in need, we continue the heritage of healing that was initiated by our founders so long ago.

Our Commitment to human dignity, health and quality of life

Our vision of enhancing the health and lives of our neighbors enables us to simply do more towards providing compassionate care, promoting health improvement and creating healthy communities. This commitment to human dignity, health and quality of life extends beyond the perimeters of our facilities and is woven into the fabric of everyday life in Sonoma County.

We believe that healthy communities result when illness prevention is combined with such other important factors as a clean environment, safe streets, good water, access to work and education, competitive salaries, affordable housing, a healthy lifestyle and more.

Through our extensive network of community health programs and clinics, advocacy efforts and healthy community initiatives, we continually strive to meet the health needs of our neighbors and make this a better place - for everyone - to live, work, learn and thrive.

Our mission to be of service beyond our own walls has long attracted physicians, employees and volunteers who share the same spirit of giving. They are drawn to St. Joseph Health System - Sonoma County by the opportunity to serve their neighbors and contribute to the well-being of the community.
