Laurence H. Smith, M.D., FACC, FACS, FCCP
Cardiovascular Surgeon
Laurence H. Smith, M.D., FACC, FACS, FCCP, has extensive experience in adult cardiac surgery, including arterial revascularization, mitral valve repair, aortic root homograft, and MIDCAB and OPCAB procedures. He is a member of Santa Rosa Cardiac Surgery practice.
He received his medical training at the University of Tennessee and went on to complete an internship and residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he was named Chief Resident in cardiothoracic surgery. He also completed a cardiothoracic surgery residency at West Roxbury Veteran’s Hospital in Boston.
At Harvard University, Dr. Smith served as a Cancer Research fellow and a fellow in Clinical Surgery. He was also Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at Columbia University in New York.
Dr. Smith served in the Navy as a ship’s surgeon on the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy and as an attending surgeon at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia.
He is the recipient of the Continuing Medical Education award from the American Medical Association and received an Appreciation Award for Excellence in teaching at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Dr. Smith has published widely on thoracic and cardiovascular surgery topics. His professional affiliations include the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Chest Physicians, and The Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
